In the Beginning....

Day Three of home-alone motherhood. One-month old daughter not exactly playing up to expectations: where are the leisurely long naps allowing Mummy to get some things done around the house? Why can't Mummy set the baby down anywhere without immediate, incessant wailing and carrying on (usually by the baby)? Where is the charming, adorable baby we saw in all the brochures?

At least there is some sleep being had. Once successfully inserted into the bed (still a tricky proposition) Baby Girl nurses, sleeps, nurses, sleeps, etc. until around 7 or 8 AM. This is a tremendous improvement over Mummy getting up for one, two or even three hours every night to nurse Baby and then try to get her back to sleep.

Mummy, that is, I, always railed thoroughly against co-sleeping. No way, no babies in the bed. This out of fear that it would develop into having children sleeping in the bed for years and years. I still have that fear, but oh sakes alive, it's so much easier to deal with nursing at night this way. Sleep deprivation does not make for a happy Impetua.
